We are happy to announce that Lauren L’aimant has been crowned the winner of our radio spins competition - where our users had the opportunity to win 25,000 plays of their music across internet radio provided courtesy of Radio Airplay. Radio play is still an extremely important avenue for current artists as it provides exposure, can potentially lead to sync opportunities and separates your music from the multitude of competition out there clamouring to be heard.
We chatted to Lauren about her musical journey so far…
So Lauren, tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I'm a singer, songwriter and producer. I have been trying to break into the industry for around 5 years (and counting), learning lots along the way and working with some really talented people. I've had a couple of tunes played on national radio so far (BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra etc) and have been featuring on other people's music to create a bit of a buzz about myself. Felon's 'Moments' being the most recent of these, which was released via Armada Deep last month.”
What are you working on at the moment?
“I'm currently working on an EP which I am hoping will be out early next year, but also writing for artists like Icarus, Apres, Felon, Megan Vice and Chloe Martini (to name a few). I am also rehearsing for live shows and looking to launch my own label next year, all the while working part time in hospitality to keep myself afloat before my big break!”
What do you think about our playlist feature and the platform in general?
“As a member who joined Music Gateway quite early on in its life, I have seen a MASSIVE improvement in the accessibility of the website and less restrictions for users that aren't in a position to pay for a membership etc - which is the case with so many people that make music, including myself. I thought the playlist feature was a great idea - it just allows industry professionals to view your works a lot easier in my opinion. I have been forever using Soundcloud for this previously, but like I said, the accessibility of Music Gateway’s playlist tool is brilliant and I'm sure I'll be using it more often.”
Tell us the story behind your song ‘Family’ - All of us here in the office think It’s an absolutely huge track!
The song 'Family' was actually written for The Prince's Trust. I met a girl on a random night out in Soho who was working for an events company called Ascential, and they were working on a campaign for the Prince's Trust to raise £1,000,000 called 'Million Makers'. She had an idea to write a song for the charity and fortunately asked me to come up with something, and I said yes! I then wrote the song, recorded it, and as a result I performed at The Pure London fashion show.
How did you go about tackling the creative process?
“The creative process behind 'Family' pretty much involved me sitting down at my keyboard in my little shed studio, messing about with chord progressions etc, and the chorus hook just instantly came to me. I wrote the song itself very quickly actually. I then began working on the actual production which also came to me quite easily. I think when I write from the heart the whole process is easier for me. The song has gained a little bit of traction but not as much as I'd hoped, so I am incredibly grateful to win this competition so that more people can hear the song! It's all about being there for somebody in need, so I hope it strikes a note with the people that listen to it."
We’d like to wish Lauren the best of luck with her upcoming EP launch and look forward to seeing what’s in store for her!
