George Gleeson, a talented singer / songwriter turned producer, talks to us about his career to date, the success he’s had on the platform and what’s in store for the future.
Having always loved music he started playing guitar at 10 and proceeded to leave his small town for the brighter lights of Brighton at the age of 17 to take his music seriously. “It was between London and Brighton, London was slightly too intimidating at 17” A decision that worked out greatly for George as he spent 3 years in a band exploring local venues and travelling overseas for gigs.
Having taught himself how to produce via Youtube tutorials, collaborating with friends and posting work on forums and receiving feedback he started to hone in the craft. “Sometimes as an artist you can be stuck in a box so producing allows some more creative freedom and exploring different genres”
George also took part in the B side project the Awards mark the culmination of a year-long project to promote new artists, merge music genres and provide additional platforms for live and electronic music productions. His single 3AM won the category Best Remix Production you can check out the track here.
Having successfully worked as a session musician on hire projects on Music Gateway George has received rave reviews from fellow MG members:
Great to work with George, he delivered quality files within a quick turnaround. Great singer with great musicianship. Professional manners, polite, easy to communicate and exchange with. Would definitely recommend him to anyone. Tom Labecki
George did an amazing job on this project. He's been very professional to work with and delivered some great vocals very quickly. I look forward to working with him again soon! Ian Howell
As well as receiving these reviews he had a lot to say about collaboration and how he’s utilised these contacts “Music gateway has provided a space which I can regularly visit to search for commercial briefs, whether that’s songwriting or session work. Connecting me with clients across the world, some of which have become good friends and now regular collaborators.”
So what advice would George give to Music Gateway members:
“I think Music Gateway gives new musicians, songwriters or producers a chance to start building a career in music. When I first started out Music Gateway was the first site I found which actually took online collaboration seriously, making sure that my fee was guaranteed. The platform caters for people at various stages of their career, whether you're building up a portfolio or looking to place your music in high level film or TV.
Make contacts through the site, 50% of my paid work is through Music Gateway, hire work is a great way to build relationships and work with recurring clients. Make sure you’re compatible with the project owner, listen to the reference files and adhere to deadlines. Be sure to understand the client’s brief and vision for the project before pitching, don’t just apply because you see a large fee. I believe it is always about picking the projects you feel you can do justice, and the people you think you will work with best. I firmly believe building relationships and consistency are more important than a quick pay out.”
